| Ladies and Gentlemen, |
| Welcome to the Saudi information Centre. |
| We are very pleased that our guest speaker this evening is His Excellency, Mr Youssef Shirawi. |
| This is the third time that Mr Shirawi has agreed to address our group and he needs no introduction from me. |
| Your host for this evening is His Excellency Dr Ghazi Algosaibi, our Ambassador. |
| Ladies and gentlemen, |
| I observe two golden rules when in the presence of Dr Algosaibi: |
| My first rule is to avoid speaking English because I know that His Excellency will spot all my mistakes. |
| And my second rule is to avoid all attempts at poetry for reasons you will also understand. |
| Others have failed to keep these rules and have suffered as a result! |

| Tonight, Mr. Shirawi will be talking about “The Gulf: From Pearls to Petrochemicals”. |
| As you all know, the Japanese are very highly skilled in copying and improving upon many products. However, in my view, they will never be able to match the quality of the Gulf pearls and especially those from Bahrain. |
